Convention 2014

The FPEA is proud to announce that two courageous men — Mike Farris (left) of Patrick Henry College and Mike Smith (right) of the Home School Legal Defense Association — will be the keynote speakers at this year’s Convention.

Farris is the chancellor of Patrick Henry College and chairman of the HSLDA, and was the founding president of each organization. He is a constitutional appellate litigator who has served as lead counsel in the U.S. Supreme Court, eight federal circuit courts, and the appellate courts of 13 states. Farris has been a leader on Capitol Hill for over 30 years, being known for his leadership on home education, religious freedom and the preservation of American sovereignty. He will be the keynote speaker at the Leaders Forum luncheon on Thursday and will also speak at the Friday morning keynote program.

Mike Smith and his wife, Elizabeth, along with Mike Farris and his wife, Vickie, incorporated the HSLDA in 1983 andwere the original board members. Smith came to the HSLDA full-time in 1987 and has served as president since 2001,and also serves as a contact lawyer for California, Nevada and Puerto Rico. Convention Special Events: 30 Years of the FPEA— and Moms, Bring Your PJs!

Each year at the Convention we do our best to deliver a mix of old and new events, and 2014 is no exception.

On Thursday evening, make time for the Annual Business Meeting, where we will celebrate the past 30 years of the FPEA. This is a great reason to arrive on Thursday to kick off the Convention in style. This event is included in your registration.

This year there’s a special treat just for the moms: the Busy Mom’s PJ Party with Heidi St. John! This is an extra-special, separately ticketed event that will be sure to provide some late-night fun after the exhibit hall closes. As a homeschool mom of many, Heidi knows how busy your days are and how important it is sometimes to sit back and relax with good food and good fun.  You can register for this event along with your convention registration.

Get Inside the Exhibit Hall

As a big part of the largest homeschool convention in the country, our exhibit hall is unparalleled in service and size — we strive to bring you the very best products and services available.

As a result, we often receive questions about how to exhibit at the Convention. In fact, we have a detailed process that begins with an online application, which is now available. After carefully reviewing each application, we send invitations to businesses and organizations that offer the services and products we believe will best enhance the homeschool experience for Convention attendees.

If you would like to see your favorite curriculum or educational service at the Convention, point them to the website.

Leaders Forum

Again in 2014, the annual Leaders Forum will kick off the Convention with an entire day dedicated to leaders of homeschool support groups, nontraditional private schools and co-ops.

The event is also open to community leaders. The 2014 Leaders Forum theme, in conjunction with the Convention theme, is “Courageous Leadership.” Leadership requires courage, so come and be encouraged by keynote speaker Mike Farris to continue to fight the good fight of homeschool leadership right where you are. The Leaders Forum will begin with time for fellowship and networking during the morning general session, followed by breakout workshops filled with ideas and encouragement for your groups.

The keynote address by Mike Farris will will be the centerpiece of a beautiful luncheon, and the afternoon events this year will include time with your FPEA district directors as well as a special celebration of the FPEA’s 30th anniversary, with Brenda Dickinson recounting the history of homeschooling in Florida. Leaders Forum attendees are treated to a wonderful time of learning, connecting and encouragement. Register for this event beginning in January.
